About JHKnives
Hello everybody, this is Joe from JHKnives. I started forging knives a few years ago and have been doing this as a hobby ever since. My interest in bushcraft, survival and woodcraft is the reason I also got into tools and therefore toolmaking.
Always interested in carving and green woodworking, I started out making small scandinavian style carving knives. These so called “sloyd knives” proofed to be prefect for my limited skills and machinery in the beginning. A home made forge, a block of steel for an anvil and a 1x30 grinder from the hardware store were enough to get things going. These very basic tools tought me to be patient, improvise grinding techniques and to heat treat low alloy carbon steels out of the gas forge.
With time skill improved and soon I made everything from sloyds to hook knives and chipcarvers, bushcraft and hunting blades, small gouges and even a small carving axe for myself.
I continue to push myself to a high standard of handwork and try to improve my processes to forge quality tools. Because this is not my fulltime job there are huge breaks in my “production”, spanning weeks or sometimes even month. Available products can be found here on the website and will also be announced on my Instagram profile.
